The registration, transfer and licensing of vehicles in Sierra Leone is handled by one authority, while national assets are controlled and identified by another. This state of affairs causes significant losses to the government thanks to unauthorised transfers of government vehicles.

During a recent government transition, incoming officials had trouble accounting for all government vehicles. A group of data scientists were provided with data. Their findings indicated that the government was short by close to US$ 1 million in lost income from the past decade.

In addition to presenting this evidence to the Anti-Corruption Commission, the data scientists are now developing a blockchain technology tool for the government to track and manage its vehicle fleet.
