Civocracy is a Civic Tech platform that enables local governments to run more effective and efficient citizen consultations. During development, expectations were high: however, at launch, the anticipated impact was found to be disappointingly lacking.

For the tool and its government clients to have real-world impact, users needed to be given not just a digital interface, but also some understanding around the topics in hand.

Benjamin discusses three ways in which Civocracy adapted their technology and business model to ensure this happens: training and education, an optimised user experience, and integrated analytics.

The results have been transformative.
