An interactive workshop to document challenges, lessons, and strategies for leveraging civic tech to track climate finance and curb corruption. Insights from the workshop will contribute to a white paper on actionable civic tech solutions and strengthen a community of practice.

You will engage in activities led by the Infrastructure Transparency Initiative (CoST), Development Gateway: an IREX Venture, and Accountability Lab, organisations with expertise in catalysing tech solutions for climate finance, infrastructure, carbon markets, and inclusive programming.

Building on a TICTeC 2024 panel hosted by Development Gateway and Accountability Lab, the workshop will start with a brief presentation on civic tech challenges in climate finance.

Two case studies will frame the discussion:

  • HackCorruption regional hackathons led by Accountability Lab and Development Gateway, involving over 300 participants from 23 countries, which generated tools to counter climate finance corruption;
  • The application of indicators by CoST to track climate commitments tied to infrastructure investments in Malawi.

After sharing these experiences, the session will focus on collaborative reflection. The goal is to identify challenges, existing tech solutions, and ideas for scaling or creating new tools.

The workshop’s main outcome will be a framework for the white paper, addressing key climate finance problems, current data and tech solutions, and forward-looking strategies.
