Longer description:

In an era of digital advancements, numerous Brazilian cities still adhere to outdated publication practices for local policies, resulting in information being ensnared within unstructured and inaccessible documents.

Launched in 2021, the Querido Diário initiative meticulously maps, scrapes, extracts, processes, indexes and publishes the official gazettes of 350 cities, rendering them accessible through a user-friendly web interface and API, and has the eventual aim of covering all 5,570 cities in Brazil.

The project is implemented collaboratively by a community of more than a hundred people with an open source and open data approach, the means by which this ambitious initiative is made viable.

Querido Diário, is used for journalistic articles, academic projects, data analysis and as a data source for projects such as Diário do Clima, that enables journalists to monitor and investigate city policies about climate crisis mitigation, pollution, mining and other themes.

Discover how Querido Diário is breaking down barriers and empowering citizens to engage with their cities’ policies in a meaningful way.

Giulio and Renne will make this presentation remotely, from their base in Brazil.
