The Global Data Barometer provides fresh insights into how data is being governed, shared and used to advance the public good, with a special focus on the Global South. Learn about key recommendations for strengthening data ecosystems, including fostering collaborations between civic tech actors, governments, and researchers to promote evidence-based decision-making and policy innovation.

The second edition of the Global Data Barometer (GDB) provides fresh insights into how data is being governed, shared, and used to advance the public good, with a special focus on the Global South.

Explore key findings, focusing on the intersections of data governance, public accountability, and equitable development. Through concrete examples, learn how robust data governance frameworks have enabled real-world impact, such as improving transparency in public contracting, political finance, RTI performance and more. Case studies from African and Latin American countries illustrate how targeted interventions — like open contracting data and political finance — have helped communities address local challenges and hold governments accountable.

Also discover the systemic barriers facing the Global South, including limited infrastructure, skills gaps, and the underutilisation of data resources, emphasising the need for inclusive, context-sensitive approaches.

You will learn about key recommendations for strengthening data ecosystems, including fostering collaborations between civic tech actors, governments, and researchers to promote evidence-based decision-making and policy innovation.
