The Association Civic Tech Europe, ACTE, based in Brussels since 2020, brings together the leading civic tech startups and organisations at the European level. Members directly develop technologies in the field of mass consultation, local democracy, and grassroots organising. 

Recently, ACTE initiated the Democratic Shield to safeguard elections, opening discussion on the uses of AI for democracy and elections within EU institutions.
