Carl Jacobs is the Head of Research and Data at OpenUp. As a skilled data scientist, he oversees all research and investigative activities, while ensuring accurate data displays across the organisation’s projects and products. As a rigorously trained academic, Carl emphasises the importance of bridging theory with practical application, particularly in technology’s role in societal improvement. His career includes roles such as Researcher at iCOMMS, Senior Project Manager at GeDIA, and Senior Project Coordinator at HEdIS. He is currently completing a PhD in Information Systems focusing on South Africa’s e-Government Strategy, having previously earned an MCom in Information Systems and a BSc in Civil Engineering, all while advocating for contextually relevant solutions rather than one-size-fits-all approaches.
