Running Civic Tech websites over a long period of time brings some unique challenges, not all of which are foreseeable when setting out.
Matthew shares some of the history behind some of mySociety’s UK sites such as TheyWorkForYou (established in 2004), WriteToThem (2005, but with its roots in the FaxYourMP project, launched in 1998), and FixMyStreet (2007), all of which are still running today, along with some shuttered projects such as PledgeBank and HearFromYourMP (2005–2015).
What problems arise within a fast-changing environment like the internet, with user expectations ever on the rise — and how best to tackle them efficiently?
TICTeC supports the mission of the non-profit mySociety by bringing together practitioners, commentators, academics and funders to debate, network, and share research and knowledge in the civic tech field.
