Publish What You Pay (PWYP) is a global coalition of more than 700 civil society organisations advocating for transparency and accountability in the extractive sector (oil, gas, mining). They believe that improved transparency will allow men and women in developing countries to address corruption and claim fair benefits from the exploitation of their natural resources.
The PWYP Data Extractors Programme is a global initiative which trains participants to uncover and make sense of extractives data. It creates a network of activists who can in turn share their knowledge with local communities. The programme has been running for 2 years and has trained over 20 data extractors in 16 countries across the world.
In this session, Joyce Nyamukunda will present case studies of PWYP's Data Extractors Programme's work, describing the problems they were addressing, the approaches they took, and the outcomes they achieved. They will share what they learned from the humps and bumps, wrong turns, and dead ends in their journey from data to impact.
